Posts: 0 (12/20/01 07:51:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Remove this ad We have a 2001 3500 6sp 24v qc dulley, with 64160 miles on it. The warranty is gone and the power steering pump went out. I was driving down the interstate and when I put my brakes on the lower the rpm got I lost my brakes and power steering. Just like trying to drive/steer with the engine off. NOT fun!! Does anyone know the history or of any problems with the 2001 and power steering pumps going out? I have a 98' with 456,982 miles on it and have never had a problem with the steering pump. My other 3 Dodges have all got over 100,000 miles with no problems either. Posts: 863 (12/27/01 23:29:24) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I haven't heard anything about steering pumps going bad on diesels (or gassers), either here or on the TDR site. You just got the rare bad one I guess. A common problem is the steering gear being loose, but not the pump going bad.

Posts: 0 (02/18/02 09:01:21) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	After replacing the power steering pump I mentioned in my first message on Dec. 12, 2001, it is now Feb. 18, 2002 and the same thing happened again. There is a loud pop/bang and you lose power steering and brakes. (Seems to always happen on the interstate going 65 mph) HELP!!

Posts: 316 (03/20/02 15:15:13) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Remove this ad Check for a restriction...either a hose has failed internally (YES, I have seen it happen with hydraulic lines)...maybe the steering gear or the powerbrake booster is defunct??? Causing you to have this problem?? I have heard of a couple other people (on this board) having this problem. My booster had something stick in it...it would "kick" me back if I touched the brake peddle!! I stomped on it a few times real hard while I was parked...hasn't come back, but that was my problem.
