Love the truck, but wished the turbo was a bit more "Noisy". I keep hearing mention of something called a "Silencer ring" in the turbo inlet. From what i have been told, removing this will make the cool turbo "Whine" more noticable. What i need to know are 3 things, 1 How loud will this whine be? a little more then stock?, or ALOT louder to the point of it being annoying?. And most importantly, will this have ANY adverse affect on the Turbo?, or is it strictly a sound control item? and last but not least, will it void the warranty?. Any help with these questions and even simple "How-to" instructions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Posts: 0 (10/03/00 11:55:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just removed mine yesterday.Remove air hose between breather and turbo. Take two medium size flat screwdrivers and pop out snap ring to remove small cone.Whine is a bit more noticeable.Don't know about other questions but if in doubt put it back in when you take it to the shop.

Posts: 174 (10/03/00 19:44:01) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The silencer ring is just there for acoustic purposes I have seen no literature stating is serves a real function other that sound control. I am sure if by some chance the dealer noticed that it was not there they could say something but remember they have to prove what you did accutally caused the problem. Be very careful if you pull it out and put it back in that the snap ring seats properly I would hate to see the ring meet the turbo fins at 40,000 RPM. If you really want to here that whine and help save your engine throw the factory air box away and get a K&N RE-0880 14" conical filter and connect it to the factory air hose. Improved air flow, much higher quality filter and the turbo really talks to ya......... 1997 Dodge 2500 SLT CC 5 speed 4x4 LWB Cummins Diesel, TST 330/750 kit set all the way forward, silencer ring removed, 16cm2 housing, straight exhaust, Scotty Air System, Pyro and Boost Gauges, 305/70/16's, Warn 12,000 winch for those times you say "I think I can make it :) " Future upgrade to 4" off turbo into 2- 3" pipes out each side.

I have never owned a vehicle that had turbo....I do not hear any "Whining" from my Turbo Diesel...but Ive also been told that if the turbo is not functioning the truck will not run very well....TIA

Posts: 174 (10/26/00 05:19:02) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Heavyg, You can be sure that your turbo is working, if not you would know it but to cure your curosity try this. Now remember I do not recommend doing this for a long period of time. Open your air box and pull the filter out, make sure there is not garbage below the filter and close the box back. Take it down the road, Paved (No Dust) and you will hear the turbo whine. They did I good job insulating the cab to the whine is not normally heard. I have talked with a few guys that thought the truck felt it had a little less grunt without the ring so they reinstalled it. And obviously Steve feels different. Go figure????

Posts: 0 (11/21/02 10:36:44) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Boyhowdy, I know my turbo is working when I plant the peddle! When It spools up, I feel the aceleration it imparts! It's hard for me to describe the acceleration, other than to say I have "get off it" real quick, for fear of citation. My truck is stock, 2002 Dodge 4x4 CTD H.O. 6sp quad cab, long bed. 11,344 miles new. Never again will I own a gasser!

My dad's 235HP had almost no improvement other than .1 to .25 mpg improvement. My 215 HP had a noticeable improvement as well as improved mpg. Go figure?? I don't know...I only wanted the noise! steved

It really sounds neat to the people you pass by when they hear this scream go by them.
